Rape,  Sexual Assault

Russell Brand

Russell Brand has been charged with rape, indecent assault, and sexual assault for a series of interactions that took place between 1999 and 2005.

Brand has been interviewed a lot since Channel 4’s DIspatches, the Times and the Sunday Times investigations uncovered multiple allegations against him, and denies all allegations against him.

He posted a new video on X when the charges were announced and said “What I never was, was a rapist. I’ve never engaged in non-consensual activity.” He went on to say he was ‘incredibly grateful’ to have the chance to face these charges in court.

The Metropolitan Police gave a short statement saying they had written to Brand to inform him of his charges:
– In 1999 a woman was raped in the Bournemouth area
– In 2001 a woman was indecently assaulted in the Westminster area of London
– In 2004 a woman was orally raped and sexually assaulted in the Westminster area
– Between 04 and 05, a woman was sexually assaulted in the westminster area.

Brand has been given a court day of May 2nd ‘25.

But this is not all, back in February this year a civil case for ‘personal injury’ and ‘sexual abuse’ was lodged against Brand by an anonymous woman at the High Court in London and is only known as AGX in the paperwork.

The Jaswant Narwal of the Crown Prosecution Service gave a statement on the situation:
“We carefully reviewed the evidence after a police investigation into allegations made following the broadcast of a Channel 4 documentary in September 2023. We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with offences including rape, sexual assault and indecent assault. These relate to reported non-recent offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women. The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”

The Metropolitan Police’s detective superintendent Andy Furphy who said: “The women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers. The Met’s investigation remains open and detectives ask anyone who has been affected by this case, or anyone who has any information, to come forward and speak with police. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at CIT@met.police.uk”

But who is Russell Brand? He was born in Essex and rose to fame by performing at the Hackney Empire in the year 2000, and then a bit later at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. He went on to presenting national television and radio programmes.
But the turning point for Brand’s career was when he presented Big Brother’s Big Mouth in the mid-2000’s, a companion show for the highly popular Big Brother, a show that is made all around the world. From this he went on to present for NME, MTV and even Brit Awards ceremonies, had his own debate show on E4 and fronted the UK leg of the charity concert Live Earth. His radio career was also strong, and included hosting radio shows on the BBC particularly on 6 Music and Radio 2 between 2006-2008
Controversies followed Brand through his career, particularly during live TV where the anything can happen chaos made Brand feel at home. But when he made inappropriate phone calls he made to Fawlty Towers actor Andrew Sach’s during a 2008 show landed him in the midst of a full on scandal that prompted his dismissal.
From there Brand’s career took him stateside where he starred in movies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek.
However, recent years have seen Brand take a new direction, particularly since 2020 and the pandemic that rocked everyone’s lives so badly. Brand, however discussed his skepticism of the virus. He has since developed a cult following online for his hot political takes, challenging mainstream reporting of things, and often talks about conspiracy theories. Brand has also established himself as a wellness guru and has taken an odd religious turn to his most recent content
