The Attempted Otley Run Massacre

On the day he launched what he termed the “Otley Run massacre”, Lawrence posted a “manifesto” describing a number of weapons he was taking, including the baseball bat pictured here. Police only reported recovering two weapons, the crossbow and the rifle.

One of Lawrence’s friends, Jonny, raised concerns directly with Owen in March 2024, and also says he warned his mother and sister that he was a ticking timebomb. We spoke to Jonny and he said:

“We were friends. He was a very lonely person who didn’t talk much but he was obsessed with mass killing. He had no childhood or adult life.”

The Times reported that the sister of Lawrence’s ex-fiancee accused him of “stalking” her sister, who has learning difficulties, after she had broken up with him. One of his neighbours said “Two years ago, the police broke the door again looking for a gun. He had a ball-bearing gun and had shot someone. He liked racism and was very far right.”

We discussed Lawrence and the attempted Otley Run massacre in the most recent episode of Version of Events.
